With its art fortune and delectable food, Italy is one of the biggest attractions in Europe. Although at first, Italy might seem like an expensive country, if you certainly know what to pay and what to avoid, it can be quite affordable. So don’t let Italy’s luxurious lifestyle change your mind, there are a lot of simple ways to save money but still enjoy your time in Italy. Here are some useful tips that will help you not empty your saving account.
Visit Italy during the off-season.
The off-season is from October through April. During the off-season, everything is cheaper, even the airfare and accommodations. Another advantage is that you won't have to wait in those long boring ceaseless lines.
Use public transportation instead of taxis
Taking public transportation will also save you some cash. The local trains in Italy, especially Rome may be quite cheap. They are a great way to travel around, but also to get out of the city for a day, and see the beauties of Italy like the Lake Bracciano in the north.
Intrigued by the wonderful tourist attractions, you may decide to dine by the Trevi Fountain in Rome or the Duomo in Florence. Unfortunately, these places are much more expensive than some local trattoria, where you can find better food at a good price.
Walk and explore
Another good way to save money in Rome is to walk. The best way to see all the attractions is by foot. You should not worry about getting lost, wandering around the picturesque and winding streets is the best and most fun way to explore the city.
Stand up in the bar
You will probably end up to €5 to your modestly priced macchiato or espresso if you decide to sit at a table at any Bar. Standing instead of seating, will not only save you money, but it may also put you in an interesting conversation with the Italian life in motion around you. You could get you coffee and find a lovely seating place outside in a lovely piazza.
